The first round off of March Madness caps off in the Midwest with four seed Indiana facing off against the MAC Champions and thirteen seed Kent State. Indiana is an experienced group led by coach Mike Woodson and senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis and they’ll surely be ready to lock in for a run in this tournament. Their issue is they find a more than formidable Kent State team as their first-round opponent. This Kent State squad has found a new identity in the past two years since the transfer of Sincere Carry, and they are back in the tournament for the second consecutive year. They are entering the tournament playing the best basketball of their season en route to ten wins in their last eleven games.
The big question Kent State is yet to answer is if they can stack up against a bigger school from a tougher conference. Indiana went 5-2 against ranked opponents this year, while Kent State has floundered in both of their tests against top 25 teams. Kent State might have turned a corner, and they could be ready to finally contend with a bigger opponent, but it still the biggest test they’ve faced all year. Indiana’s roster looks talented enough to make a run to the final four and a veteran coach at the realms should make Hoosier fans confident that they’ll handle their business.
Kent State has certainly proven to be an exciting team over the past month, but there are levels to this sport. Take Indiana to handle their business in round one.
Chiefs vs. Seahawks, 2022 Week 16 (Written for Kansas City Market)
Chiefs’ fans cover your eyes. After a close loss to the Bengals, the Chiefs have won their last two games by only a touchdown. Apparently, that’s as bad as it gets for the Chiefs these days, as they have not played up to their impossibly high standards the past few weeks on their journey to the best record in the AFC. This week they host the Seahawks who have lost some of their early season magic in the past month. They have officially lost the division to the 49ers, but they are still in the thick of the wildcard race thanks to the resurgence of Geno Smith. They’ve turned into a well rounded group with the contributions of a talented group of rookies, but their ultimate goal is still to develop their roster into one that’s half as good as the one Kansas city currently has.
Betting against the Chiefs has become like picking a number on a roulette wheel. Eventually it will hit, but no one is really expecting it to be a great pick. The cycle of the Chiefs has become as ritualistic as the release of a Marvel movie. Patrick Mahomes rises to the top and shows he is unbeatable, only for a brief period of adversity so the viewer can start to doubt him. The viewer always knows that the superhero is going to be victorious, but they can’t get enough of the ride. Take the lessons we’ve learned in the past, and get ready to watch the Chiefs get back in their rhythm to end the regular season on a high note.
